  1. Know what you want to outsource

    Think about what tasks you can delegate. Are you looking to delegate your social media, are you planning on having your reports transcribed, do you want someone to help create your templates, do you need someone to look after your accounts, is it time to have someone manage your diary, do you want an online business manager to keep all the pieces of your business running? Once you know what you are going to delegate you will know what specialist you are going to need.

  2. Look in the right place

    Instead of just doing a google search, think about searching on an industry website. What industry sites you can search? Is there an Association that you want your specialist to be a member of? In terms of finding a virtual assistant you could look at the Australian Virtual Assistant Association or you could review VAs on one of the Virtual Assistant networks. Websites such as Virtually Yours, Find a VA or VA Placements have a great list of skilled virtual assistants.

  3. Do your research

    Check out their website and most especially the testimonials so that you have a sense of the type of work they do and how others feel about their work. Ask around to see if anyone you know has used that person and get some feedback. Word of mouth is the best way to find the right person.

  4. Don’t pick the cheapest option

    Once you have obtained a couple of quotes don’t just pick the cheapest quote and assume that the quality will be the same. You know the saying “you get what you pay for” that is usually the case when outsourcing. Consider the value that they are adding to your business and the quality you want to pay for.

  5. Make sure they align with your own business values

    Based on your communication with your potential team members do you feel like they understand what you need? Does their business values align with your own? Does your gut instinct say they are the right fit for you? Sometimes you will find someone who has all the skills that you need but they just aren’t the right fit for you. It just means that you need to keep looking for the right virtual team member.
