SEO - What Does It Mean?

How many times have you received a phone call or an email from someone telling you that they can improve your SEO on your website and that they have the key! We’ve all received this type of contact but what is this SEO? What does it all mean?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation and in short it means altering your website to make the content more searchable in search engines and having your website rank higher than your competition.

There are a lot of companies out there that suggest that they can help you rank higher than your competitors and that it won’t cost you the earth. I’m not sure what it should cost you and I can’t tell you whether you should invest in this type of service. However, with most people searching for your services online I guess you want to do whatever you can to be found first when they are searching.

SEO - taking your website ranking up

I found a great article from Hubspot that lists some free SEO tools to help you determine what the current standing of your website is and whether or not you might want to consider hiring someone to help you get your rankings up. The article is called “10 Tools to Analyze Your Website Like Google Does” – check out this article here.

Is SEO something you can do yourself? Yes, I believe you can! To do it yourself you need to do a lot of research and studying to make sure that your knowledge is up to speed and you can implement the right strategies. Most of us don’t have time for that! So the alternative is to look at the companies offering this service and try not to be scammed in the process.

Different SEO companies will offer a variety of services that relate to getting your website at the top of the rankings when keywords are searched. When you do your research make sure that you check out what services they provide and if they are appropriate for your business.

SEO Process

If you feel that you do need to get some extra help then my advice would be to ask around your networks for someone that can be trusted who has delivered the results. Don’t just do a random search and hope for the best. If you are thinking about responding to someone who has contacted you and has promised you they can deliver, do some research and check them out thoroughly before you commit to anything.

If you are based in Sydney then I can recommend 2 businesses that have been recommended to me through my networks. Check out No BS SEO, they seem to have some great advice and tools on their website – check them out here. You can also check out Corporate SEO – check them out here.

Good luck in your quest to find a great SEO company and get your ranking to #1!
