How do you choose a CRM?

There are a lot of Client Relationship Management (CRM) tools on the market and it can be hard to work out what the best solution is for you. There are a lot of things that you need to consider when deciding on a CRM. You will consider the industry and type of business you run, the functions you need, the cost involved and many other things. So how where do we start?

Firstly, look at what you need your CRM to do. You may just want a simple list of clients and contact details and an Excel spreadsheet will do the trick but most people will find the functions of a CRM invaluable for tracking their customers, sales and marketing.

What sort of things can a CRM do? If you’ve never had a CRM system, the first thing you'll want to know is what can it do? Some of the functions of a CRM include:

  • managing leads and contacts;
  • create tasks for team members and monitor progress of those tasks;
  • keep track of sales activities;
  • automate processes;
  • generate customised reports;
  • integrate with your emails or social media; and
  • attach files & documents to your contacts. 

Now that you have an idea of what a CRM can do you need to work out exactly what functions you will need. Once you know what you are looking for then it is time to do some research. Check out a couple of CRM systems and see if they can handle the functions that you need.
